Honey Boo Boo is going international.
Dear world, I apologize.
I've never actually watched this show because I thought I needed some sort of translator to understand the plot line. However, the people of the Netherlands, Australia, and Latin America will now have the opportunity to view Honey Boo Boo at her best. This makes me want to bang my head on something hard. Sure, sure, it's trashy, but more than anything I find it sad.
High school teens showing their true colors.
Dear teens, I knew you had it in you.
Teens get a bad rap. Here's proving compassion still runs thick.
Just Do Something by Kevin DeYoung.
Dear those trying to hunt down God's will, Search no more.
Oh, man. You know how I wrote about when life throws you two stars instead of five? Well, well, well. I just happened upon a tiny book of genius by Kevin DeYoung, and not only does Kevin talk about that very thing, but he also talks about the reasons we are so directionally challenged.
Who? What? Me? Wait, what am I doing with my life again?
I could create blog posts for weeks with quotes from the pages of DeYoung's wisdom, but one of my favorites is this:
"Let's not spiritualize our inability to make decisions in the quest to discover God's will."
Amen.
Wait, here's another.
"We want it all, and we want God to show us the way."
Bam.
I'm winding up again. I just can't stop.
"What I am saying is that we should stop thinking of God's will like a corn maze, or a tightrope, or a bull's-eye, or a choose-your-own adventure novel."
Kevin DeYoung, you are so wise, and poor Kevin DeYoung. How did you end up in a post that also mentions Honey Boo Boo?
For that I apologize.
What's going on in that little head of yours? Thoughts on Honey Boo Boo? Go ahead and try to tell me the two minute basketball video didn't make you teary. Oh, and are you directionally challenged?

I think I cried about three times in reading this post. The first at the thought of Honey Boo Boo being released out into the world (I'm so sorry world) and then reading the quotes and then that video (oh my goodness! that was a fabulous story!). I love all the different directions this post is going. It's just like my brain at any given moment.
Jamie,
Ohhh, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with so much randomness crammed into one little space.
first, anyone who allows themselves to be called honey boo boo in the first place. . .never mind. i just can't be nice. :-)
that video--shame on you for making me start my day in tears.
and i have that book and LOVE it! should be a must-read for every high-schooler. in fact, that reminds me to have my oldest read it, like, maybe this summer! reveals so much of the mystery of "is this the will of God??? or not?" well, my friend, maybe that's not even the question. instead of spending our lives contemplating our navels, perhaps we should be LIVING and let God redirect as needed. it's a whole lot easier to change direction of an object than get it moving in the first place, yes?
have a blessed day!

The saddest part about the Honey Boo Boo thing is, and I'm telling you this as someone who comes from another country, that people in those countries then live with the idea that people in this country are all like that. It creates huge stereotypes. I don't guess the producers care about that, though. Bottom line, of course.
Okay, here it goes...Who the heck is Honey boo boo? Am I just uninformed, sheltered or just dumb?
I dislike any show that disrespects children, honey boo boo is one, and toddlers and tiara's is another and any other kind that shows how adults can manipulate and coerce children into being and doing what they do not want to do. It should be against the law and yet we promote it as 'entertainment'? it just shows you how low we have stooped in the name of "I think it is funny". I am NOT obviously an advocate for any of these shows. Children are children. Let's let them be that for a season and time of innocence.
I am writing as a grandma of six who never ever would allow this kind of behavior to happen. It is very sad.
I love this basketball clip. Yes, tears.
Just Do Something is a book the Heath loves and has told me to read numerous times.
Thoughts in my head-- I often hold back encouraging others in big things they are a part of because honestly I wish I were doing something big. But lately I decided I am going to be an encourager, even if it means encouraging the person who gets to do what I want to do. Not even sure if that makes sense to anyone but me.
Other thoughts- I have your voice often in my head telling me it is OK to take a risk even if it doesn't pan out or your feelings get hurt. At least you can say you took the risk.
great post- you should blog more often about the thoughts in your head because there is a lot of good stuff here.
I love Kevin DeYoung's writings. I'm kind of re-examining some things, Amy...and it's good to know I'm not alone in doing that, but that I can use my God-given smarts and wisdom and resources and, as I consult Him and His word, I can step out and "Just do it."
He's bigger than my mistakes...and He redeems them big-time!
I had no trouble keeping up with your direction changes. But then, I am the navigator of our little household. Someone has to be able to read the map! As for Honey Boo Boo, oh.my.goodness. I watched a whole 10 mins in absolute horror. There are just no words beyond that.
Yes, I cried for all the above. The commercials alone for Honey Boo Boo disturb me on so many levels.
And that BB game? Well...I am a mom with a child that has his problems, so it hit me hard.
And yeah to Kevin for reminding us we do not have to figure it all out! God is intentional in leading us. :-)
Thoughts for the Day,
I totally agree with you. I don't hate the show because it's trashy...sure, it's not quality, but I hate the image it portrays of Americans (like Gaby said above), and I also hate the world is mocking this little girl...does she know or does she think she is some super star? People will say it doesn't matter because the family is getting paid, but it still makes me sad.
ha! oh my, Amy. you've outdone yourself ;). loved hearing your thoughts.
Love that basketball video and love teens who are making a difference on a daily basis - they are out there.
