Making a Difference or Making Noise

People are talking, and I'm going to tell you, sometimes all of the talk sounds like yappity, yappity, hashtag, like, +1, yappity, yap.

The online world is noisy.

In fogs of 140 character wisdom (Don't be hurt, Twitter. You are still my fave), I wonder if all of our online activities make a difference or simply add to the noise.

In addition to inspiration and entertainment, I'd love to hear about the good oozing from your fingertips.

Tell me, bloggy friends, what's one positive way you use your online voice?
Your turn, Go.

Sweetest Amy,

I try and use my voice to promote the library. No ads, no selling, no spending - just sharing. My dream is to encourage parents to read - even if it's just 10 minutes - each day with their children.

We are blessed beyond measure in this country - and our library system is a treasure worth passionately pursuing with our family.

PS - I tried tweeting for about two weeks and couldn't take the pressure. ;)

Me first:

So, I really like being involved in campaigns, projects that are more than just a share or a RT. I like joining together with a group of people working toward a goal. I think it's exciting.

I like finding ways to encourage people to encourage people to engage with others in the world, even when it's scary to step out.

Michele,
I've always admired and loved your mission. It's orignal and inspiring, the way you encourage us to reach out and grab the free treasures sitting right in front of us.

BTW, along the same lines, the Book Mobile came to my daughter's preschool, and she won't stop talking about her new book, "Bootise Barker Bites". Watching her get excited about the world of words is exciting!

If you guys don't know Michele's blog, you must check it out!

Encourage women & get them talking about things that matter.

I wonder about this a lot. You do a fantastic job with this Amy. I just pray anything I write works to encourage others to reach out and serve, to see a bigger world and know they can be a huge part in offering hope to others.

Making new friendships has been a happy surprise :)

I use my voice on line to encourage others in their walk with God, the daily grind of parenting and to be aware of our ever shifting culture. We also use it to communicate with our church body~which works great for the younger set (say under 50) but not so for everyone.
As for my blog, I just hope to encourage others walking this same road of life to live, love, and laugh with God...I hope that's what I'm doing anyway.
Keep up the God work.

I use my online voice to share funny stories with nuggets of grace and truth tucked in. It's my belief that we all need to laugh at least 7.5 times a day. It does a body good. That and a glass of milk.

Well, I try to make my blog a positive, happy place. I often share of God or family. I want it to be a refuge from the storms of life.

I try to encourage mamas going through the preemie/special needs parenting journey.

You know I get overwhelmed by the noise. One of my favorite things to do is encourage private creatives to put their work out there. I have been shocked at some of the secret poets hiding out. Every time someone puts a piece of poetry out there because of my prodding, it makes me feel like I have purpose. Hmmm, I've never really thought about how this is a big deal to me before now. I must think on this :)

I don't blog. I share the joy of YOUR encouraging talented blog with everyone I can- I'm just spreadin' the good news! :)

I hear ya about the online noise. It all seems to get very loud when a controversial pastor says something offensive, or a leader over a fast food organization makes a statement about his version of morality. (Not that I don't add to the noise...)

I blog about my faith, how it has evolved, and how God rescued me from a lifetime of fear. I blog in the hopes that someone else finds freedom.

The High Calling exists to tell the good stories about good Christians doing good for God and others in whatever they do.

We encourage people that their lives and their work matter.

Personally, the noise is a problem. Places of retreat, digitally or otherwise, are increasingly important.

That said, much exciting stuff is happening! Yesterday I found http://theicebreak.com/ and fell in love with its simple method of drawing couples together more closely through a sexy, quasi-public, flirty game. My wife and I had some fun with that yesterday...

I let my freak flag fly and that brings glory to God. The outsiders of the world are my mission field. Being myself in God's light and out in the open ministers to me and others.

I'm so glad you did this and will absolutely be sharing the post!

One of the best ways has been to create a space for others to connect ... one of my coworkers has cancer and will be leaving China. I did a week long special that involved an interview and it let hundreds of people say how much she'd meant to them (way more traffic than I usually get).

well did you know I advocate for orphans with special needs Amy, my Tilly and my love for her led me to it, but online blog links led me to Reece's Rainbow, which in turn led me to a little girl called Francine who i fundraised for until her family found her and adopted her, I ended up in the Ukraine helping that process and then travelled across country to find bobby my new child i fundraise for, in a remote institution! not bad for a middle aged mum of 3 who is slightly agoraphobic and terrified to fly! since returning i continue to raise funds for his adoption and also for a new home to be built at his institution, i started a new blog about it here! http://flightplatform.blogspot.co.uk/
