Punching Out Your Teeth and Making Them into Dentures

Recently, we served with our kids, and this is what went down.

Kid on the playground to my daughter: I'm going to punch out your teeth and make them into dentures.

Me: Are you kidding me? That's rude.

Kid on the playground to me: Oh and I have something to say to you too.

Me: (silently waiting and eager to pounce).

Kid on the playground to me: Why would you bring all these white people here?

The end.

Sort of.

Except that's a good question.

Therefore, little kid on the playground, I've been thinking about your question and well, I've been thinking about you.

Yes, I have.

Have you kept up with the series on authors who publish books about serving God by serving others? It's a goodie. Make sure to check out Dan and Alene. Next up, Jill Richardson, author of Don't Forget to Pack the Kids: Short-Term Missions for Your Whole Family.

laughing so hard, i hope i can still type. . .
first thought: i'm not sure punched out teeth make for very good dentures!!!
second thought: i think you were smart to keep your mouth shut after the second comment.
the "whys" of life--worth contemplating, worth wrestling with, and rarely deserving of a smart comeback.
at least, that's my current thinking due to my own "why's" of life. there's always more to the question than just the question, isn't there?
hmmm. now I'M thinking about that kid.

Steph,
YES! There's totally more to the question than the question.

I'm queen of comebacks, but I didn't have an answer, and it got me thinking about a slew of things that have been bouncing around my head...like motivation behind our actions and poverty and change, real change, and how real change happens. Ohhh, and missionaries. It's got me thinking about missionaries and people who are really out there with their kids every day.

I am thinking this Amy. . . My momma claws would have unfortunately been sharpened and out. I hope I would have been praying for wisdom. I hope. I hope like you I would have been silent in the moment. And I know that there is so much depth, so much hanging in this confrontation at the playground.. Just little words but so full of weight, right?
I assume this is part one of two?

You were there to BOLDLY SERVE them. duh. *I LOVE THAT ABOUT YOU!!!!* You brought them God's love-in-a-bun! Whatevah colah your skin is, sometimes it's not easy to be "Jesus with skin on". All I know is, my daughter was appalled at the lack of appreciation for your presence! She learned alot! (thrown ice hurts!) Who knows how many hearts you guys reached...
Happy PS: The Tooth Fairy would've rewarded you had you lost some teeth!!
