Thank Goodness I am Influential in Salsa

Do you ever wonder about the impact you have on those in your circle? Wonder no more.

Let me introduce you to KloutIt’s the not so new, but new to me, measure of online influence.

Klout measures the following:
-How many people you influence
-How much you influence them
-The influence of your network

Klout magically reads what you write about the most, and then assigns you an influential score and a list of topics in which you hold some, oh, what’s the word? Oh, yes, Klout.

To help you better understand, I will introduce you to some fellow bloggers.

First up, the lovely Nancy Franson. Nancy influences people in family, college, and photography. Aww, that’s sweet. Way to go, Nancy.

Next, we have Sharita Knobloch (fellow Soli Deo Gloria small group member). This girl is influential in marriage, spirituality, and blogging. Big hand for you, Sharita.

Then, we have the sweet Jean Wise. This lady influences people in Christianity, spirit, and writing. Sure, that makes sense.

Picking up the rear, we have me, Amy Sullivan. I was thrilled to read I am influential in blogging, salsa, and logging. What?

Yes, that's where Klout says I have the most influence.

Thank goodness!

I was totally wondering when I would get some recognition for all the work I’ve been doing in the logging industry and wow, those magical Klout fairies must have heard I won first place in a Salsa Off with friends two years ago.

Geesh.

Delving into the existence of Klout made me think about my real-life influence. Sure, I influence those inside my house, but what kind of impact do I hold outside these walls?
Where would you say you have off-line influence? Friends? Co-workers? Extended family? The logging industry? Anyone? Anyone?

Klout, oh goodness. When I first heard of it I was like, seriously? Something ELSE to keep up with? So I don't. Great post.

ahaha. i have never figured out my klout. now this makes me equal parts terrified and super curious :)

This straight-up cracked my business. And I can't say I'm anything but envious about your salsa klout.

Can you please come over and influence me in Salsa? (p.s.- maybe they're talking about the dance, do you have any mad salsa-ing skills?)

Loraine said...

I was thinking salsa dancing too. I think I went with you once, only our husbands couldn't get in because Trey wore the wrong shoes. :)
I think we have influence in all of our off-line circles, the question is what kind of influence. For my kids sake, I hope its all good :)
Love you and you are pretty funny.

My husband is a tree surgeon, so I totally have influence in logging! ;-)

I think salsa is a brilliant thing to be known for ; )

Hysterical! You so crack me up.

lol! All I know about Klout is my husband's score outranks mine...so being the competitor that I am, I thought I better get back to blogging! **wink wink**

Well, I guess I could ponder the deep stuff but I really am just that competitive and God really used that dumb number to get me to start tapping these keys again. Good to be back here in blogland!

oh my. not to be read with a full bladder :-)
anyway. . . i refuse to think of klout. just can't go there. at least on-line. can't handle the devastating thought of recognition for something i don't even remember!
contemplating my outside influences. . .
and where do you FIND this stuff, anyway???

Loraine,
Ahh, yes, I remember. Instead of going somewhere else, we told our husbands to go home, and we went salsa dancing.

However, I am 100% sure this is my ONLY salsa dancing story.

Mariah,

The sad part is it is not the dance skills.

Thinking back, I MAY brag a little about making a good salsa. Apparently, it is enough to get noticed by Klout. Now, the logging one. That one has me stumped.

I can't remember yours, but I looked at it. I think it said something random and funny like chocolate.

Steph,
I know. It's silly, right. I've heard of it forever, but never paid the whole thing much attention.

Then, I saw on someone's blog that they had a Klout score of blah, blah, blah, and I coulding resist. I had to go see what they deemed me influential in.

In case you are wondering, you come up under me, and it says you are influential in one topic. Guess what it is?

Guess.

WRITING. I will trade you my logging for your writing.

I haven't heard of KLOUT either, but your post is hilarious! Hey, a good salsa is good for the soul! I love it in summer with my homegrown tomatoes and onions...yummy! Now, I wonder if I should check out klout or stay far, far, away...it might say I am known for chocolate addiction. I could say I influence (not always well) my hubby and children daily.

Amy you are hysterical. I certainly think influential salsa is unique and interesting. I love a good salsa anyday. ha!

I'll have to look for you on klout! :) you know - I've been amazed at how God is allowing me to reach out to encourage women lately - He's also brought back to my mind a time (when I was 12) that I told Him I would - I committed to Him then and now finally am obeying- He is doing the rest.

That is kind of awesome, lol. I can think of no reason they picked logging- not even a remote reason. Weird. At least you're a good sport. Now I want to know what they'd say about me. Perhaps influential in forgetting to blog, encouraging other bloggers to stop writing and randomly start again with no explanation. Check. I love your sense of humor :)

Oh Amy. You don't just make my heart smile-- you make it guffaw!

Thanks for the shout out... I guess I have seen klout but still don't really get it :-) I'm a slow learner.

Oh, and one more thing-- My Mama taught me how to make salsa... It's pretty epic. And I asked (Ok, begged/bribed) my husband to let our wedding dance be one of those romantical ones that bursts into a choreographed salsa dance halfway through.

Yes. We had maracas.

So glad to come say 'hi' and get a laugh...only you would have the quirky Klout areas...so, so funny. Sending you love and a very good laugh with you at you and with me at me...Proverbs 31:25. One we could never meditate on enough!! xoxo

You should have Klout in comedy Amy. You have such a jovial, humorous way you write that makes us all smile. And hey, I want some salsa Klout, I'm known for my recipe (actually its Rob Bell's recipe) far and wide. Just served some up at a dinner party on Saturday and we were disappointed - no leftovers.

this made me giggle. i never did understand my Klout, and have let it fall by the wayside.

I don't get Klout...signed up, but don't understand its purpose. My offline influence continues to be my family. You know...husband and kids. I need to branch out from the house. :) Gotta get off the computer to do that. ;) Great post, Amy. Happy Tuesday!

Logging and Salsa - you are so having fun! I never really think "influence" because I associate that with money and prestige - I think more about love and support those God puts in my path daily - which, of course, is my kids, my husbands - and kind of like when Jesus said, He was the beggar, the blind man - just those people in my life path.

I'm slow to choose lots of media because it really takes time away from my writing. At one point, I was trying a lot of it out - and I want to ensure my connections are concentrated enough to grow good things.

Oh, friend, I can picture you in that flannel logging shirt munching on salsa.
Love the way you DO influence the world with that servant's heart of yours!

kendal said...

oh this is hilarious! so are we talking dancing or chip dip? and even IF (and that's a big if b/c i find you influential in the realm of service, especially)you only influenced your children? how terrible is that? that is number ONE, amy.

@ church, with my kids--although not at the moment. My pain in the rear 4 year old keeps messing with the computer as I'm trying to read and write!! @ work, when I'm working. It's amazing how much influence you have when you start to consider it!

This made me laugh, Amy. Klout is bizarre, that's all I have to say. I'm rarely on it...but just recently I popped over to see that I am influential in turkey. No lie.

Nancy Franson said...

Oh my goodness! I wondered why people were wandering over to my place when I haven't written anything in living memory.

For a while, Klout considered me influential in chili and Calgary Flames (which I think is a Canadian Hockey team?)

Frankly, I won't rest until the site recognizes me as being influential in feather boas.

Last time I checked I was influential with bacon...I was proud of this! :) Who wouldn't want to be influential with tasty bacon!
