Caine's arcade games weren't simple. This kid created fun passes, individual tickets, his own security system (calculators attached to boxes), and even made a custom claw machine.
The only problem? Caine's father did most of his business online, and therefore, Caine received few customers. And really, what fun is a custom designed, cardboard claw machine if no one uses it?
Despite the fact that Caine's games went unused, he continued to build, and even though Caine's peers made fun of him for saying he had an arcade, Caine kept dreaming.
One day a film maker went looking for a door handle to fit his '96 Corolla. You'll never guess where the film maker found himself.
Of course, Caine's arcade.
One film, one flash mob, and over $197,000 raised in scholarship money.
How's that for a story about a boy and cardboard dreams?

Thank you, Caine.
Thank you for reminding us to show up, push on, and believe in our dreams, especially the ones made of cardboard.
Dream check. How are those dreams of yours growing? Are you giving up because you don't feel worthy or are you building on because you know it's worth it?

That is an awesome video! My husband watched it with me - and we're going to show our industrial "artist" who loves building with ALL kinds of materials! This was just so amazing about what our kids can do if we just give them the right kind of space!!! Thanks Amy for sharing this!!!
What an awesome kid! I'm sitting here crying and smiling from ear to ear. Wow! Thanks for sharing this Amy!!!
That just made my night! I have to show my kids this video tomorrow! What a great story! Great kid!!
Ladies,
Glad you watched! Rarely do I watch long videos from blogs...10 minutes is long. The 20 minute one I just posted on vulnerability is practically a lifetime, but sometimes, just sometimes they are worth it.
I can't wait to show my little creator too.
Thanks for reading.
thanks for sharing this...I gathered the family and we watched...tears and all...
ummmm. crying.
Amy - That just absolutely made my morning. I was smiling and had a tear running down my cheek at the same time! I cannot wait to show it to my boys. I know they will ask, "When can we go there?" You always share the coolest things here. Bless you.
This is super! And so glad I found your OTHER blog ha ha. Blessings to you sister and thanks for your time and commitment to lead our SDG small group!

dreams are precious! and yes, they take work and great effort sometimes... press on!
Ah, that is a Amy story if I ever heard one. :-)
oh, amy. if you could know how this has changed my son's little life. he watched this a few weeks ago, and started building that very day. right now we currently have 4 "machines" complete with tickets, prizes and the highly desired, fun pass. he even taped the calculator to the fronts :) when he watched the video he got tears in his eyes and said "that's what dreams will do, they'll open your heart."
this reminds me of the (oh wait....it's such a surprise) documentary "Being Elmo" about the guy who voices Elmo on Sesame Street. he was just this poor kid who lived in a rough neighborhood who loved to make puppets and put on shows. not exactly the coolest thing for a dude to be doing during high school. but his passion for swimming against the current got him noticed by Jim Henson and yeah......we know the rest. b/c i can somewhat be a people pleaser (working on that) - i LOVE it when people follow their passion simply for the love of it. not b/c it's cool or trendy. reminds me a bit of rudy from book club.
this is awesome! thx for sharing! (and yes, it is cool and trendy to use texting abbreviations in blog comments. just so you know) :)
Tara,
Ohhhh, your boys sounds amazing!
And Renee, still haven't watched "Being Elmo," but it's on my list. NetFlix is overwhelming and I end up sucked into movies like "Winter Bone". Don't watch it. Four days later and I'm still haunted.
Love you guys. Thanks for reading.
Holy cow! I saw this video going around facebook, but I didn't watch it until now. I am crying. This makes me want to encourage all the crazy ideas my kids come up with. What a great dad. I think I need to share this. Oh, and Winter's Bone . . . crazy, crazy, crazy hard to watch.
Amy, this made my day. So.incredibly.awesome. I am showing it to the fam tonight. How one persons kindness can change someones life - oh my. And we are watching it my friend, because when you share anything we know it is worth the time.
