Neuroendrocrine Cell Hyperplasia used to be a mouthful of words that dominated our life.
Five years later, the burn from that time still dances in my head and reminds me of the gift of good health.
Our family’s three and a half year struggle with the health of our oldest daughter led us to connect with other families who struggle in the same way.

This is why we chose The Rathbun Center as the non-profit we are honoring through our Almost-Sleepover. The Rathbun Center provides free lodging for those traveling to Asheville, North Carolina to seek medical attention, and the Rathburn Center happens to be adding a children’s wing.
Here’s the part where we come in.
It’s time to party it up, (in a pajama clad, tween sort-of way!).
This coming Saturday my eight-year-old, Amelia, and her friends will gather to raise awareness and goodies for the new children’s wing at the Rathbun Center.
Here's a peek at the video we made to show the girls on Saturday:
We aren’t the only family you may know in blogland participating in this national event. My friends, Jen and Alicia are also hosting Almost Sleepovers in Texas and Iowa.

Question for you: Do you have any funny or favorite childhood sleepover memories?

I wish we could be there! I'm thankful that Amelia is a healthy girl today. I clearly remember the dark times of not knowing if or when she would get better :( So thankful for her health (and Ruby's, too).
I clearly remember watching Thriller at a sleepover, and it was a huge, huge deal - along with Duran, Duran videos. Oh, and thanks for the link up the other day, friend :)
amy.. the thing i remember most about sleepovers was the drama.. there was always some elementary or middle school drama.. but we always had them.. my mom made our house the cool place to be. we would giggle all night.. i loved it!
What joy to see the healthy girls now just doing girl-stuff. GOD is so good.
So glad your little girl is healthy now. God is good!

On my thirteenth birthday, my older brother and his best friend (my long-time crush) walked a mile and a half to crash my sleepover so my crush could deliver a cologne-drenched love note to one of my girlfriends. He and I became good friends in high school, but I never let him live it down. :)
oh, yes, so glad that your girl and their girls are so happy and healthy now...free to dance and be beautiful in all the ways they are...
Love hearing about amazing causes around the world. Good for you.
You and your family so giving so servant minded. It's amazing how the Lord brings something into our lives that directs us to a place of 'need' when at one time we wer the ones in need. I am glad you guys are on the other side now.
Wonderful cause Amy and I hope the efforts make lots of money for the good work being done.
I remember being the first to fall asleep at a friend's during a slumber party and of course getting shaving creamed--I learned that I am really grumpy when someone suddenly wakes me up.
I mostly remember staying up all night, and eating A LOT of junk food! Trying to whisper quietly so the house parents wouldn't wake up and be mad....and always failing (what can I say, I have a loud voice and was probably the one who woke the poor, tired parents up!).
I am so happy that your daughter is healthy now. This sounds like a fun way to raise money for a great cause!
What a sweet way to honor your families journey and the people who helped you through it.
I was one of those annoying kids that had a great time at sleepovers until bedtime . . . when I wanted my parents to come pick me up.
Fondly,
Glenda
What a great way to help that kids can understand. I may have to plan something like this up here for my daughter and her friends. Hoping everyone has fun on Saturday. :)
Your daughter is precious. So thankful for places like the Rathburn Center and for people like you who help spread the word and the blessings of it.
I still have sleepovers with the same three girls that I grew up with. Once a year we stay up as late as we can (it gets earlier and earlier each year) and catch up as thoroughly as we can. Those are nights I always look forward to.
xxooxxooxxoo!

Your daughter is absolutely the cutest thing! It's so nice to connect with others during difficult times... God is good!!
What a great thing your doing Amy!
Very cool. I always learn something new over here.
Oh my gosh do I have sleep over memories! These include such gems as:
*watching the movie "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" over and over at the only slumber party I was allowed to have.
*getting our slick sleeping bags wet with cups of water and using them as slip & slides.
*watching Friday the 13th because one friend's parents thought that was age appropriate for first graders.
*prank calling 956-(insert the mother of all bad words) and asking for Pedro. You always had to ask for Pedro. Who was Pedro? There was no Pedro.
*rocking out to Janet Jackson's Control album on a "jam box" and hearing Motley Crue's "Smoking in the Boy's Room" for the first time.
Barb,
Were we at the same slumber party? I've done every one of these things, and yes, Friday the 13th? Why did anyone think that was OK?
I have no idea and of course I was scared to death and just lied there trying to be "cool" but really I kept my eyes closed through the whole movie!
sweet video, and i hope you have a fabulous time saturday!! i love that you are a shaker and a do-er. hope it's a wonderful success~
xo
I'm not sure which memory is my fave: staying up all night, eating doritos & cinnamon toast, drinking hot tea(with milk!)and trying to do seances OR playing "truth or dare" and only doing the dares, which involved streaking and flower picking from neighbor's yards with my prepubescent besties! Good times, good times!
