Today I saw a little, old woman dressed head to toe in eggplant purple. Purple Easter hat with a purple flower, purple-rimmed glasses, purple dress, purple accessories, and purple shoes. I smiled and silently drafted a blog post on embracing your inner, old lady.
Then, I could only find one shoe out of three different pairs of shoes, and that made me think if I only owned one pair of shoes, I’d always know where my shoes were located. This situation prompted an idea for a post on excess.
Soon after, I snapped at my daughter about something silly, and you know what I thought? Yepper, great blog material for a post on frustration.
So, in an attempt to stop thinking in blog posts and just start thinking, I am taking a tiny break from blogging.
However, blog-like thinking isn’t my only reason for taking a break. Other reasons abound.
Reason #1 I am behind on my off-line writing. We are talking stuck-in-construction-traffic-during-rush-hour-with-my-fists-clenched-and-horns-honking-behind. So, I must write.
Reason #2 I am planning an Almost Sleepover for a great cause and some amazing tweens. The par-ta is a little over a month away, and I need to spend time focused on the fun. It's not too late for you to join in partying it up for a cause in your community. Details here.
Reason #3 A new and exciting writing adventure with some names and faces you may know begins soon.
Thanks for reading, friends. Love to all.

SO excited about your inspired teachers thing! I didn't know you were doing that - fun, fun, fun!
I'll be praying for you during your blogging break. Good writing will flow!
I should have liked to read the post about embracing the color purple, and your inner old lady. :)
I hope your break refreshes you, and you find your time lavish with laughter and inspiration (and the color purple).
Many blessings!
i also think in blog posts. but i like that about myself. but then again, i've done that since i was a little girl, so it's nothing new for me.
enjoy your time away, dear one. good writing is hard to find, and you have that in spades.
bless you.
While my husband and daughters read and love my blog and are so encouraging . . . I did have to stop saying . . . "that would make a great blog post." It was getting annoying to them. :)
Blessings on you dearest, during your break.
Fondly,
Glenda
totally understand....glad i have your email!
I will say that is one thing I have enjoyed about the poetry because this very thing used to happen to me when I was writing my regular posts. I was not living the moments, but looking for opportunities to write about. I hated that. So, enjoy your break, and I'm excited about this new adventure. Can't wait to see where it goes :)
Enjoy the break, dear friend. So glad you are paying attention to the voice of the Lord ~ leading you to different things!! Much love ~ alice
Amy, when you started describing the little old lady in all matching clothes/accessories, I automatically started wondering what you were doing hanging out with the Queen of England. Alas, that was not the case (was it?). Will miss your sassy Southern voice here on the blog, but I understand. Have a great time. Come back and tell us about it sometime!
Sometimes a little break is much needed. Blessings to you during your break and all your endeavors.
Amy,
wishing you the very best during your break, and knowing that i will also miss your postings!
if it helps--i don't think that thinking in blog posts is necessarily a bad thing. . . unless, like you said, it keeps you from living the moment. sometimes i think it helps me think deeper about the moments because i am, quite simply, more aware of them! but then if i can't converse about it with my kids because i'm too busy composing in my head. . . well, that does become a problem. so i know what you mean.
will look forward to "seeing" you back here again.
blessings!

Will miss your blogging during your break but glad you are listening to your heart and know when to stop. Praying for the party with the girls and that it will be awesome fun and meet many different needs.
Stay inspired as you find you way through writing with pen and paper. We look forward to your return.
Melody
I get so annoyed at myself when I start thinking and living in blog posts.
Thanks for all of your words of wisdom and encouragement. Good luck with all the new upcoming happenings!
LOL! I do this, too -- think in blog posts. (I do like your ideas though. ~smile~)
Happy non-blogging! See you when you return. :)
I think in blog posts, too. You set a fine example for the rest of us out here, and I'm glad you'll be taking the time to work on some larger projects. But I shall miss you greatly, so finish them quickly, hmmm? Congrats on the new writing gig!
a big hug to you...so excited for the new opportunity!
i understand from the bottom of my heart. go live life for a bit and come back full of stories
xoxo
I think all of us who enjoying blogging think in blog posts. The only problem with me is that I am too old to remember them when I sit down to write. =)
Congratulations on your new writing adventure...and I totally understand that "stuck-in-construction-traffic-during-rush-hour-with-my-fists-clenched-and-horns-honking-behind" writing deadline. Every month I ask myself "why do you wait so long to get started?"...those horns honking just make me go even slower. =)
Congratulations on your new venture!
All the best ... thanks for popping by and leaving your love :)
Totally impressed by your realization and your ability to step away. I think in blog posts, too. All. The. Time. It's frightening actually. Makes me think I'm not living real life.
Your Inspired Teachers place looks awesome!!! Yippee!!
blog posts...they tend to become clearer as our lives unfold :)
Congratulations by the way!
m.b.
Enjoy your break! I took a break in the summer for 7 days, but found it was just in me to write, and I would still go to write on my blog, but just didn't publish it. It helped clarify for me that I was really writing because that's what God had put in me to do, and not just writing to keep up with the blog.
Blessins to you!! :)
I totally get you and your reasoning. Blogging can take up so much of our time. We will look forward to having you back when your break is over!
Hey Amy,
I loved this post because I so think in blog posts too...scary! :)
And yes, I hear you on feeling behind on other writing projects. I too must write--thanks for the inspiration!
I'm excited about your new blog. Looks great! Great to find another educator. :)
Blessings,
Mel
All good reasons to take a step back. I'm excited for your new adventures. Congratulations!
I am going to miss your words....but I'm excited for your new writing adventure!
Congrats on your new writing adventures! Looking forwards to hear from you...I'll miss you terribly.
Also, thanks for being at my place ... celebrating my 1st anniversary!
So excited for you! Just clicked over to Inspired Teachers and you and Laura are two of my favorite bloggers - what a wonderful combo!! Yes, I often think in blog posts, too and then know it is time for a reality break. Best wishes on your various writing endeavors and keep us posted :)
Please don't be gone long, since we just met. Loraine and I met in "real life" the other day, and she mentioned some of your new adventures (in writing) Best to you!
i will miss you!!! but, i understand and am happy for you to take a break. (by the way, i'm sure jen told you, but i'm working on a novel/trying to get published. if you have ANY advice for me, especially after your time at the conference, please feel free to drop me a line. or, you can get my phone number from jen!)
blessings on your time off, friend.
:} Well, I didn't choose the blog hiatus that little to no internet has forced, but it has all been good to un-blog-i-fy my mind. Then, when it went a little long and I have no off-line writing to work on and only packing and little kids to think of, I realized thinking in blog posts was better than not being able to think a deep thought at all:} sending you love RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!
i love it.. i often think in blog posts sometimes to :-) I am praying for your hiatus.. but i will miss your writing. God bless you Amy!
So very cool, Amy! Looks like some exciting things on the horizon. Keep us posted!
I love this...similarly, my "blog life" takes ebbs and flows because of other writing ventures, my life's adventures, and the like. It's nice to see where your thinking and creating is leading you!:)
I’ve been out of the blogging loop for a week or so too, not intentionally, but these people in my life require food and clean clothes (and potty training, oh my goodness – are you going through it? Your daughter may be older than my Luke. Oh, the dancing I will do when he is out of diapers!) I’m catching up here now … the new teacher site looks great! Can’t wait to spend some time there. Hope your other writing is coming along too. Your site always makes me smile. (When you get sec, will you cut and trace me a cute pair of red Toms? ;) Blessings, sweet friend!
Amanda D.,
I'd love to cut you a pair of Toms because I am really, really good at it. (Insert loud laugh!)
