When You Feel Messy

Feeling messy today.

My mind is pinball machine-like as Ann Lamott's famous radio station, KFKD blares on.

Oh and ps: Either my dog took a flying leap off the back deck and tripped, or I felt a little shake, shake from the earthquake. Anyone else feel the rumbling?

Oh and pss: Expect a post about hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in the dark with only one headlamp that sort-of worked. Don't worry, it includes raging waterfalls and stray dogs.

Oh and psss: Did you read serving your family and serving your community? Serving the world is up next. Get ready, friends.

What about you? How do you beat your funks?

What did you do to that sweet baby, Amy? ;) And yeah, it was a rumble and it was spooky! Thankful it doesn't happen often.

Mother of the year was trying to get the perfect shot next to this cute little stream...it didn't go quiet as planned.

Chritmas card, perhaps?

and that would be quite and not quiet.

I'm in one right now, so I'll let you know how I find a way out, lol. Love you!

Felt the shake, shake here in Reidsville, NC.
Mitchell said he was drawing something and his hand slid all the way down the paper when it happened. I actually never felt it....getting a bit of a complex over that one at this point since our entire community felt it except me. Too much padding possibly????

Melody,
Don't get a complex. I would have missed it if I wasn't sitting on the floor and even then I questioned if someone was on my back deck.

And now, I see I've spelled Christmas wrong. I need to call it a night...grr.

lately..I am giving into it..sorta.
It takes me about half the day fighting it..then I realize I might just let it be for the day. Relax and chill. This to shall pass I say. And it does. Weird I know but the last couple of times it helped me. I think that everyone has days that suck so who do I think I am that I can't have some...especially under the circumstances. Ugh!:) I'm rambling...xo

The Mrs. felt the shake at work up here a few states away, but I was outside and did not notice it.

Sounds fun with the upcoming Grand Canyon post.

ha! thing is, looks like it didn't go "quite" OR "quiet" as planned!!! poor kiddo :-)
wish i could say i never have any funks, lol.
best advice i've ever received, and the one i try to always implement--keep MOVING. sounds silly. sounds too simple.
but my tendency is to want to curl up into myself, remain silent, find my world of introversion and shut everyone else out. or the opposite, just grouch at everyone. neither of those options is exactly what i read in scripture as the ideal way of responding. movement---it keeps me engaged, keeps my heart beating. . . metaphorically, literally. gives me adrenaline and endorphins. all that helps.
and that is probably WAY more than you ever wanted to know, but there ya have it so early on a wednesday mornin' !
and, no, i didn't feel a thing here in indiana yesterday. but as i recall, i was playing mario kart (shhhh) with my daughter so i'm not sure i would have noticed unless it was quite big!
blessings on you this bright new day, Amy. hope that funk is relieved a bit after a night's rest.

Haven't visited in a while Amy, but I've been in my own funk. I have found that a quick pick me up is to listen to the rockingest praise music on full blast and letting it blare through the house. Hope it works for you.

Amy-- did i mention how your profile picture makes me smile. When I get in a funk.. i usually ask myself What have you done that makes you come alive today? If nothing then I get busy doing something.. and that can be someting little.. like drinking from my favorite coffee cup, or light a candle, play some great music... anything and invite jesus into that! :-) Have a great day Amy

you crack me up! i felt the earthquake - made me dizzy. perhaps because i was in a rolling chair at the time? i break the funk by sleeping or running or watching tv.

ha ha, Hi Amy, no advice on this one. When I get in a funk it's the middle of the night and I get stuck on one irritated thought that blends into an irritated dream that wakes me up and then I get upset about not being able to sleep. Then I get mad at God for not helping me get to sleep. Any wonder that he still loves me. It doesn't happen often. Maybe next time I'll just get out of bed and pray about it.

when it comes to funk...i usually get out doors...go for a hike or to the lake...i live 75 miles from the epicenter...i felt the world go liquid...

Love your insight and site Amy. I've tried posting before but my computer was being stubborn and anti-social with comments. In a funk--confess to friends with junk [food]. Chocolate and girlfriends!

When I'm really stuck...I force-pray-myself into a "do the next right thing" mode. Whether that be piece by piece painfully folding the laundry or finally lacing up my shoes and hitting the treadmill..otherwise I tend to spiral into a series of bad choices that make me feel even worse.

But--sometimes the "next right thing" is to take a long nap...and have a good cry.

Messy days can be good for me every once in a while...reminds me that...I'm a mess...and need Him.

Amy, am on vaca and reading "messy spirituality" by michael yaconelli. Can't do a fancy hyper link cause I'm typing on my bb. Seems Jesus loves the messy! And he spent lots of time with the messy ones while he was here! Xo!
Your messy sister, joy
