Her View on the Rathbun Center

Occasionally, my girl, Amelia blogs about our family’s journey towards gracious giving (all for a quarter!). Sometimes eight-year-old eyes see our family's serving experiences as meaningful. Other times, not so much.

Last week we gathered with friends at the Rathbun Center in Asheville, North Carolina. This home offers free, temporary housing for people who have relatives in nearby hospitals.
If you have read for awhile, you know our family experienced extended hosiptal stays, endless tests, and a baby tied to oxygen for over three years. My insides ache for those who endure similar situations, and that's why I'm thrilled to share about our visit to the Rathbun Center tomorrow at Michelle's. For now, check out what my girl has to say about visiting this "house with a heart".

Guess what I did last Sunday? I whent to the Rathburn Center to confort people who had family in the hospital. Me and my friends Catilyn and Gabby washed the blueberrys, made placemats, made a sign to hang on the door, we gave everyone a colord picture and we asked them what they wanted to drink. We were all tired and it was time to go. we had a fun day.

Love, Amelia

Sounds like an amazing facility. Thankfully we've never experienced extended hospital stays, but have known a few people that have. I can't imagine having to worry about, let alone pay for extras like housing when you're trying to be near and support a loved one.

Amelia sounds like a wonderful helper with a servant's heart. I loved hearing about her day.

Wow Amy, what a gift that Amelia gave to those families, and what a gift you are giving to Amelia. This is just beautiful and I can't wait to read what your experience was.

These are times you say, "a gift that just keeps on giving," huh? I did not know about your experience but to give back to it after this place helped you is a beautiful thing. You, Miss Amy are such a good mom to place these things into your child. You are an example to us Mom's...thank you!

how precious! So cool that you are going back into a place you know so well and can truly empathize with people. And love how your kids are right there with you. So so neat!

It's amazing the joy that kids get out of helping people. Their eyes light up and they know...they know that they are doing something that God delights in. Precious.

oh well this is sweet...i love how unedited and free you are with Amelia sharing...and you know, we just love ministering as a family--lots of times with little kids I've dragged my feet, but I'm always reminded of the intangibles of this discipline of loving and serving together...

i love following your journey...you make me smile. always:)

p.s. I'm excited to be here on Thursday too:) It will be fun!

All for a quarter. That's quite a bargain from our end. :-) What a sweet heart she has. You are doing a great job as a mom.

Hey, girl - just tried to email you about guest posting and your address came back as undeliverable! Will you send me your email again (thought I had it - so sorry!) when you get a free moment? Thanks!

Nancy,
No original copy here! I just let her type it all up in Blogger. . .which reminds me, I know I saw something about printing out your blog. Has anyone done that before?

precious! I love it when she shares her heart. I also appreciate houses like that. When our son was little and in the hospital for over a month the Ronald McDonald house was open to us. You don't realize how much those places mean to those who are in need.

Amy - i love what you're teaching her. It's so beautiful. And I've done the Blog2Print thing for my sister... we printed her whole blog for Christmas last year. She loved/loves it!
