When I think of simplifying, I think of this.
Because often adult brains complicate love and friendship and hurt and forgiveness.
When I think of simplifying, I think of this.
Because cluttered lives lead us away from our real loves and goals and dreams and faith.
When I think of simplifying, I think of this.
Because focused determinataion confuses us, and often in buying and striving and toiling and accomplishing we only complicate life.
How do you make life more complicated than it really is? Joining with Cheryl today as she starts her Simplify Journey.

These are great photos, Amy. They powerfully capture the emotion and idea of simplicity!
Cheryl,
Thanks! Love your word and focus. Can't wait to hear some of the ideas from others.
Great photos! I over complicate things by worrying about everything that can go wrong and trying to plan around it. For example, I'm going to Asia in 2 weeks and I have a new girl starting on Monday. I have 2 weeks to train her before she will be left alone with my boss who is notoriously difficult with new people. Then I worry about leaving the kids with my mother in law, will she feed them too much salty foods? Should I prepare a bunch of baked low sugar muffins and baby food for my son and ship it ahead? Crazy complicated!!! This is a nice post to tell me to just slow down and enjoy the children before my trip.
Great thoughts! I bet we are all often so guilty of making things more complicated. That's why I try to start each day with God. Just resting in Him - he takes the complicated out of things.
Rachel,
Asia? Why is it that I can't remember what you do?
Excited to have your post up this week!
Believe it or not, sometimes I can even over-think the concept of simplifying life.
thinking to much:)
xo
I get so caught up in all the things I want to be doing, that I'll spend half my day just trying to figure out how to do all those things... all while not getting any of them done. I'm the queen at wasting time and then wondering where it went. Ugh. I need someone to remind me daily to calm down.
I complicate things by overanalyzing things waaaay too much. I hear God's whisper and then I question if I heard right and ask him to repeat himself and spin my wheels in the meantime. I desire simplicity but still have yet to find it.
These are the stinkinest cute pictures. I see these and I think: I want simple too.
I have been reflecting on this scripture lately:
"I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them."
Jeremiah 32:39
I think the singleness of trusting God makes everything more simple. It's my own emotions that complicates things...I need to rest in teh singleness of trusting the Lord!
Love the pictures! And, I love the comparison between our lives as children versus our lives as adults. We could learn a lot from our childhood selves :)
Thanks everyone for stopping by! I am usually not a weekend poster.
I think it is funny that no one has commented on why my youngest is almost naked, and holding a mining tool. I, personally thought the pic went well with the word "toiling"!
BFM,
I think you are on to something when you say it is our emotions that complicate things.
I am happy to meet you too Amy.
It's amazing the way we grown-ups can complicate things. I love the pictures and the idea that children just naturally know how to simplify life. Wonderful!
kids are pretty good at simple :-)
nice to meet you too.
Now that you mention it, Amy, I'm pretty sure some child labor laws may have been violated with that sweet wee one with pick axe in hand :)
How do I complicate things? I act like I am God and God is not.
Thanks for your kind comments this week. Looking forward to having your lovely voice at my place this week!
oh, this is good... i needed this today. thank you, beautiful amy.
i love this too...a bit of a poem??!! yes?
you wrote it simply and yes, i did wonder about your naked daughter and the mining tool. so, you definitely clarified it well...i thought maybe you should simply watch your daughter with that heavy metal pick in her hands!;)
and also, well, we had another story-worthy walk in downtown last night for our date and other homeless people, and rain, and me abandoning my husband to figure out how to help...it WAS raining! oh my, suffice it to say it was hilarious and we pray good and right in the end:) i think i need to start my own blog about the journey towards gracious giving b/c He sure is trying to teach me!
The art of simplicity starts with Paul's attitude of contentment
David,
I agree. The whole thing stems from contentment.
Abby,
No siree, not a poem, but oh, I'm such a poet wanna-be.
Kim,
Yes, thank you for commenting on the pick ax. I think the ax combined with the yellow bow and pink, sparkle shoes is funny, and I can't wait to hang over a your place in a couple days!
