Oh, whoops.
Sorry about leaving this big pile of cash just sitting right in front of you. I actually just scooped these bills off my kitchen table. My daughter needed some space to complete her homework, and it's difficult to find a place for our endless supply of moolah.
"Really?" you ask.
Um no, but well, sort of.
See, I ran across this website called Global Rich List. Basically, you type in your annual income, and the site calculates your rank compared with the rest of the world.
I know we always hear we are members of the richest country in the world, but at times, it certainly doesn't feel like it. Then I see actual numbers, and I'm convicted, really convicted.
Global Rich List states $73.00 could buy a new mobile phone or a new mobile health clinic to care for AIDS orphans in Uganda. I know I paid more than $73.00 for my cell phone.
Ahhh, I'm not exactly sure what a family that GIVES looks like, but I know GIVING starts with an appreciation of what you have.
Bounce over to Global Rich List if you have 30 seconds and see where you rank (Yes, yes, it really takes 30 seconds!).

My pastor highlights this list at least once a year and I'm so humbled to live in this country and have so many benefits!
I like this. Not only am I (probably most of us reading this) "filthy money rich" but rich with other blessings too... like having a husband/dad that comes home each night. I just got home from a night of serving at our church. Once a month the single moms ministry pampers its mamas. A professional chef comes in and cooks a fancy dinner, they drop their kids off downstairs and they gather upstairs for fellowship, good food and two hours of freedom from their children! Their stories are amazing and they are all giving everything they can to their kids, without any support at home. God bless them and praise Him for the "riches" in my life! Now I've got to go see where I rank :)
It is so interesting that even our American hard times are not hard times to the rest of the world. I punched in some of the lowest numbers we have had, too, and we still ranked to the far right - so much better off than most of the world, but still so easy to forget. Shame on all of us for being so consumer driven that we forget to share the wealth.
I know..it's crazy isn't it. In Radical he talks about that! Mind blowing!! Yes...we must appreciate what we have and realize that none of it belongs to us!!
It is crazy to think that according to American standards my husband and I live on below what is considered the poverty line, but we have so much. And even if we lost half of what we have it would still seem like a ton of things. Fortunately we have learned to value the really valuable things in life...family. And to be open to giving any of the rest of it away. What an amazing feeling! Thanks for reminding us how rich we really are! ~Jessica
Ohhh, I love to log on for a minute before work in a cranky mood, and then quickly lose my crankiness after reading all of your comments!
Yes, we are truly blessed.
How fun is that? I'm hopping over right now!
I just read a Real Simple question on Facebook -- What's the one thing that stands in the way of your happiness? I read through some of the comments. So many people said "lack of money."
It's interesting how we perceive money -- this tool you posted really puts things in perspective. It's taken me a long time to figure out that I don't need things to make me feel better.
Wow. Convicting. It makes me rethink again my "needs" and my wants.
I always love things like this. I have a wonderful book called "Material World" that shows in photos what families around the world own. It is sobering.
Right on! I'm agreeing with you here: Giving starts with appreciation. Gratitude itself is a gift!
Wow. That is really humbling. Thank you Amy.
Wow Amy! What perspective. I've been stressing about money lately, but this helps me to remember that regardless of what happens with me job-wise, the fact that we have a roof over our heads and food in the cupboard is a phenomenal blessing!
